Services & Prices |

The following is a partial list of the services offered: Please note the package prices are only suggestions for work. You may not need all of the work in the package such as lowering the port on Colt model 1911's since all of the ejection ports on new model 1911's is lowered from the factory. Also, prices are all over the board for sights and night sights. There are so many variations sometimes it is difficult to quote accurate prices without seeing the gun and what it will take to install sights, but prices run all the way from a around $85.00 to install sights on guns with dovetails already cut to around $225.00 to install low mount night sights on guns that have to be altered to accept the sights. When installing low mount sights always keep in mind the metal might have to be finished when the job is complete.
Barrel Threading for Suppressors (Silencers/Cans), Flash Hiders, And Other Screw-on Attachments Many semi auto pistol barrels such as Glock, Beretta, Model 1911's have barrels that may be ordered with threaded extensions and thread protectors for your barrel attachment. However, many pistols such as the S&W model 41 and the Ruger bull barrel Mark II's must have the barrel altered to accept the suppressor or other attachment. We do that work in several unique ways. I have listed a few prices for popular work requested in this area. We no longer do general rifle gunsmithing, but have extended our pistol and revolver work to include cutting threads on on rifles to accept barrel attachments such as suppressors.

The Glock safety shown in silver is for photo purposes
only. The actual safety is black.
We have installed hundreds of safeties without a problem. They work exactly like most popular thumb safeties so when they are up the safety is on and when it is down it is off and ready to fire. The safety completely blocks the trigger assembly bar so it cannot be moved to rear to push the striker back. We have installed them for citizens with concealed carry license, police departments and every other user of the Glock pistol and everyone loves them. The main reason given by customers wanting an active thumb safety installed is, "they feel uncomfortable and unsafe carrying a pistol without an active safety." Another reason is given by peace officers who carry every day and feel, "if the pistol is taken away from them the safety would give them a few extra seconds to fight for it or acquire their under cover gun." No matter what your reason, an active safety on any semi automatic pistol could not only save your life, but the life of a family member or innocent bystander if the pistol discharges by accident.

Turn around time is usually one to two days. All you need to ship is any model lower unit without the magazine. You can ship insured USPS Priority mail for around $15.00. When shipping any firearm always ship it insured for its full value and with a signature required. Your lower unit will be returned to you by UPS Ground insured for $500.00, adult signature required and, in most case for "residential delivery." Your cost for this UPS service is $18.00. This is the most secure way for us to ship. Texas residents add 8.125% sales tax.

These two photos are of a Ruger Blackhawk that
has been high polished with color case hardened frame, carbona blue
handle, barrel and other parts and Nitre blued screws and pins. The
charge for this type of finish runs $950.00 and up depending on the
level of hand polishing required in order to prepare the metal plus shipping to
Doug Turnbull for the color case and carbona blue. The total cost of the labor
for the pictured Blackhawk was around $2,500.00.
Metal finishing is the most expensive part of custom gun work. If you want square corners, sharp screw holes and ripple free flat surfaces the metal must be hand sanded without use of power equipment. Grit paper is wrapped around flat pieces of rubber eraser and other backings, concave surfaces have to be polished with grit paper wrapped around matching convex surfaces and round surfaces must be shoeshine polished. The gunsmith starts with 120 to 220 grit paper on every surface, progresses through 320, 400, 500 and 600 grits. The metal is then caustic blued, carbona blued, color cased, nickel, gold or silver plated, glass beaded, or finished with a combination of all of those. Following is a estimate of what it will cost you to finish a Ruger Blackhawk revolver to a high polish with a combination of the above described finishes:
